Varicose vein surgery

The type of varicose vein surgery surgery performed depends upon the the extent and staging of the illness.

The principle of minimally invasive surgery consists of infiltrating the tissues surrounding varicose veins using a special so-called tumescent solution which both deadens the surrounding tissues and markedly reduces bleeding at the same time. After the actual subligation of minor varicose veins, it becomes possible to perform supplementary work using the KTP or NdYag laser to make a perfect seal of the connection between the superficial and deep systems. This method may be used for varicose veins under only local anesthesia, if the problem is not too advanced. For more extensive varicose veins, the method may be used in combination with analgesic sedation. After this type of procedure, as well, it is necessary to use a compression bandage on the lower extremities. Correcting changes such as reticular veins or spider veins may be done subsequently by laser.

The classical operation on the main venous trunk saphena magna is carried out under general anesthesia. The growing on the affected side is prepared at the location where it enters into the femoralis vein and subsequently, the peripheral area. A special probe is used to extract the vein from the subcutaneous area of the lower extremities.

Duration of surgery: 30 minutes
Length of hospital stay: 1–3 days
